Founder, Construction Operations Group (COG)

Michael C. Sanchez

Mike’s career in construction began more than 35 years ago in his family’s company, County Improvements, where he learned the industry from the ground up. Working as a carpenter on restaurant, retail, commercial, and residential projects gave him a firsthand understanding of how well-run operations drive project success.

He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Building Construction Technology from Wentworth Institute of Technology.

In 1992, Mike joined Shawmut Design and Construction as a CO-OP student, beginning a three-decade tenure that spanned nearly every corner of the business. He started as a Project Superintendent, building both fast-track interiors and large, complex projects. His leadership path continued through roles such as Project Manager, Vice President of Field Operations, Managing Director of the Commercial business unit, and ultimately Chief Operating Officer of the New England Region.

Throughout his time at Shawmut, Mike led project teams and cross-functional groups with a strong emphasis on operational excellence. He played a key role in creating and implementing standards, procedures, and operational frameworks that supported the company’s growth from $39 million to $1.5 billion.

Drawing on that experience, Mike founded the Construction Operations Group (COG), a firm that supports clients across the full project lifecycle. COG provides operational leadership, owners project management, and construction services—helping companies and project teams build strong systems, elevate field and office performance, and deliver consistent, measurable, and repeatable results.
